Today I would like to talk about banking services. In the first part I would like to describe our Central bank, in the second part I´m dealing with commercial banks and finally I´m going to talk about banking services.
Banks are important in our life. We use their services every day. Czech banking system consists of one central bank and lots of commercial banks. Central bank is called the Czech national bank, it is the government´s bank, it means that central bank provides financial services for the government. It also accepts the deposits of banks, makes the loans to banks, fixes discount rate. Discount rate is the interest rate (úroková sazba), what central bank charges to commercial banks. Next central bank exercises a control over commercial banks and issues currency and direct (prohlíží,dohlíží na) the monetary policy.
Now I would like to talk about commercial banks. Commercial banks are defined as financial institutions with licence to make loans and issue deposits. They provide financial services to public. Banks profit is the difference between lower interest rate that they charge for deposits and higher interest rate that they charge for loans. Another profit is by charging commissions.I know some commercial banks such as E-bank, GE money bank, Commercial bank, Czech savings bank, Czech business bank and so on.
Now let move on to 3.point of my presentation – banking services. Commercial banks offer their services to customers. We can withdraw money from cash dispenser or we can pay for other goods and services electronically.
Cash and banknotes will disappear completely. They will be replaced by smart cards – plastic cards with microchip processors loaded with money. When we pay for goods the retailer will insert our smart card into a payment terminal and money will be transferred from our card to the retailer´s card. Smart cards will be able to hold several different currencies at the same time, so if we go abroad, we will use our smart cards in the same way.
At the bank we can have a bank account, where we keep our money and we earn (it brings us) small interest. We can pay for hiring (hajr-nájemné) electricity, gas, TV,.. by pernament order or we can use simple one. In all czech banks we must pay for banking services charges and we usually get statement of account by post, but in many foreign countries people don´t have to pay charges (in many foreign countries are banking services for free). We can use Internetbanking or Telebanking, where we can give monetary orders or see (check) the state of our account.
I have got my own bank acount in Czech savings bank, I´m satisfied with their services, but in the surroundings of my block of flats there isn´t cash dispencer and next disadvantages are high charges.
Thank you for your attention, and now if you have any questions I’ll be happy to answer them
