Nature, environmental problems
The environment is uniting four parts: biosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and lithosphere. These parts used to be in balance on the Earth, but since a human appeared on the Earth, everything has been changing. First of all I’d like to say something about local and global problems and then I will choose some of the most discussed topic in the environment.
I think, that everyone could think of some local problems. I personally think, that these are the problems, which folks can actually reduce. This mean for example recycling waste, using public transport more or using other means of transport like bike. And we can definitely limit the using of cars just to get through the city.
The global problems are not that easy to solve. The most known global problems are for example global warming, ozone holes, too much waste, global diseases, cutting down rainforests etc. I think, that with these problems we can’t do that much, except for the waste, because they mostly come from the nature, even though we caused them.
Now I will say something about cutting down the rainforests. As humans we like to eat meat and the demand for more cattle and more space for it is big. We also use more hard wood for furniture and we need more homes and new cities for ourselves. Now, the tropical rainforests are being burnt and cut down because people need more land for agriculture. This is happening in the Amazon basin in Brazil and in Asia. But we forgot, that we are actually taking away animal’s homes. Also the flora suffers, because the flowers which are growing there need shadows of trees or they need the air humidity. Because of cutting down these tons of trees, many plants and animals will become extinct. What’s more, people living in rainforests are often untouched by civilized human and they are dying because they are losing their homes and independence. Also, the forests absorb carbon dioxide in the process called photosynthesis and without trees carbon dioxide levels will increase and the oxygen level will drop down. We should find alternative sources for wood and food and new homes.
Now few words about endangered animals. An endangered species is the one, which has been categorized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as likely to become extinct. These animals are written in the Red list. More than 3000 animals and about 2600 plants are endangered worldwide. Fortunately, many nations have laws that protect these species, for example forbidding hunting, restricting land development or creating preserves. Extremely endangered animals are for example addax (white antelope), African wild donkey (570), amur leopard (40), Asiatic cheetah (70), axolotl, mountain gorilla (880), Sumatran orangutan etc. There are already many extinct animals from the natural disasters in history or by the hand of human like mammoths, sabre-toothed tigers, giganting armadillo, bird called moa or passenger Pidgeon. Some of them are extinct recently and I can just add, that there are efforts in the science to revive them.
The last thing I wanted to say is that we should protect the nature and the environment and we should care more and respect it. Because there are many species which even didn’t get the chance thanks to us and they deserve to live.
Structure:
- What is the environment and the summary of the topic
- Local problems (waste, transport)
- Global problems (warming, ozone holes, diseases, rainforests, animals)
- Cutting down rainforests (why, where, what’s going on, consequences, solution)
- Endangered animals (IUCN, protection, examples), extinct animals (why, which one, revival)
- Conclusion of the topic
