Employment
Before you ever think of a job you have to make decision what do you want to do in your life and so to choose a school. It is very hard to make such an important decision around the age of 15, it is when one chooses high school in our country.
Pupils choose a high school according to their aims, abilities and also social status. If one isn’t a good student it is more likely that he will choose some special high school (to become a electrician etc.) or vocational school (to become a carpenter, a cook, etc.). So they will get some blue-collar job. But if one wants to get some white-collar job he must choose some grammar school or some high school specialized in economics, etc. Education is very important to get a well-paid job, it is important to have a degree from university, but it isn’t only education. It is also about your abilities – to be able to communicate with people, to be able to learn new things, to adapt, etc. (it depends what your possible employees look for). Such things one has to have in blood, such things can’t be taught.
So one is educated, has diploma and willing to get a job. But it’s not so easy. There is a strong competition at the employment market and unemployment is rather high in our state. It can be consider as a result of the transformation and bad actions of our politics in charge. So, when one finishes school (high school or university) one should get registered at a labor office (one gets financial support until one gets a job) and look for a job by oneself (advertisements).
But getting job for us – Czechs – nowadays should be a little bit easier because our state is a member of the European union and so we can get a job in all the states (but I have to say that there are some restriction for us in some states for a couple of years).
Once one is invited to a interview to get a job one should do their best. One should be subservient a little bit but one should be also confidential. One should also show an interest in the job and try to be the best and so to be engaged.
When one has a job one has to pay the tax from one’s income and one has to also pay the health and social insurance.
When one reaches the retired year one can go to retirement and get support (rent) from the state.
Jobs
There are many types of jobs so lets divide them by some criteria:
- “collar jobs” – I mentioned it once – blue-collar jobs (you work with hands), white-collar jobs (you work
- full-time X part-time jobs – full-time (work almost every day at least 8 hours), part-time (according to agreement – e.g..only afternoons, etc.)
- high paid / low paid
- jobs in a “office”(meant one has to go to work) / on the loose (one can work home, one can work for more firms, …)
- production (making a material), manufacture (making a product) , retail (selling the product)
