I would like to talk about history, culture, festivals and personalities in the Czech republic.
History:
Czech Republic is the country rich in traditions, history and culture. Czech Republic was part of Great Moravian empire in 8th to 9th century. Then Cyril and Methodius came to Great Moravian empire.
The Premyslid dynasty was in 11th century and prince was Bořivoj I..
The Luxembourg dynasty was in 14th century and Charles IV. lived in this period. He was built Prague and became a king through politics thanks his wifes. Jan Hus and Hussite’s lived in 15th century. Jan Hus was burned on the 6th Jully in 1415.
The Habshourg dynasty was in 16th century. Defenestration become early Thirty Years‘ War. The battle on White mountain was in year 1620. The Habsburgs won and the in the Czech kingdom came Catholic religion.
The Czechoslovak Republik was created in year 1918 after First World War. In the First World War won side of Agreement. Thanks the war created new states. The Second World War became in year 1939. During the Second World War was the Czech president Edvard Beneš. Czechoslovakia was liberated by Soviet Union. In the Second World War won side of allies.
The Prague Spring is period of political relaxation. Soviet Union coming in year 1968, to stopped reforms. The Velvet revolution was in 1989, to throw down communistic regime. The Czech Republic was born in year 1993. We became a member of European Union in 2004.
Personalities:
Jaroslav Seifert is only one who got the Nobel prize for literature. Karel Čapek is known for introducing the word ‘’robot’’ in his play R.U.R. The word was suggested to him by his brother Josef and comes from the Slavic word robota. Jaroslav Hašek was the Czech writer and journalist. He wrote Fates good soldier Švejk for World War.
Jarmila Kralochvílová is runner on 800m. She hold a world record on 800m with time 1:53,28. Ludmila Formanová is ex-athlete. Her coach was Jarmila Kratochvílová. Věra Čáslavská is great gymnast. She got award Medal of Merit. Jaromír Jágr is the best ice-hockey player. Emil Zátopek was athlete and quadruple Olympic winner. Roman Šebrle is ex-athletic decathlete. He holt World record in decathlon.
Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk was our president liberator. Václav Havel was one of the first spokesmen for Charter 77 and a leading figure of the Velvet Revolution of 1989. Then he became president and stay in the presidential office until 2003.
Culture:
Antonín Dvořák was the author of Slavonic Dances and the symphony From the New World, gained worldwide recognition for his work, while Bedřich Smetana is well known for his symphonic poem The Moldau from the cycle My Country. Leoš Janáček was world-recognized Czech composer of classical music. His famous work is Thing Makropulos. Bohuslav Martinů was world-famous composer. His famous works was Ariane, Concerto for Oboe and Small Orchestra, The Opening of the Wells, Julietta etc. Karel Čapek is known for introducing the word ‘’robot’’ in his play R.U.R. Oscar got Jiří Menzel for his work Closely Watched Trains in year 1966 and Jan Svěrák for his work Kolja in year 1996. Miloš Forman is director and actor. He got Oscar for his works Overflight above cuckoo’s nest and Amadeus.
Festivals:
1st January is born independent Czech Republic in year 1993 and we celebrate New Year. 8th May is the day when, we won and the end the Second World War in year 1945. 5th July is the day, when came Cyril and Mathodius. They bring Christianity and education in year 863. Master Jan Hus was burned in 6th July in 1415. 28th September is the day of Czech statehood and St. Václav was murder by his brother. 28th October is the day, when birts Czechoslovakian state in year 1918. 17th November is the day, when students protesting and fight for independent and democracy. It was in year 1989.
