LONDON
London is a capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Nothern Ireland. The teritory of London was settled eight hundred years BC. The name LONDON is from Romans. London is a capital since 1042, the first capitol of England was Winchester.
London is called Great London and consists of 32 boroughs and the City. In London’s history happened two important things. It was the Great Plague (1665) and the Great Fire (1666). The fire started in bakery and because London had dirty, narrow streets and was all wooden it all burnt. New London with stone houses and stright streets was built by sir Ch. Wren.

The city has its own major and it’s important for banking. It’s comercial center with very old and important bank called Bank of England and with Royal Exchange.
· Sights:
- Paul’s Cathedral – it was built by Ch. Wren.
- Monument – it commemorates the Great fire in 1666.
- Tower – it was the Royal Residence and a prison. Now it’s a museum. Inside are the Crown Jewels. The guards are called Beefeaters and they also guide people in the tower. In the tower lives ravens which are important for English people because the believe, thet if the ravens will leave the tower, the kingdom will fall.

In the West End live rich people. There are a lot of theatres.
- Sights:
- Houses of parlament
- Big Ben – it’s the bell in the tower.
- Westminster Abbey – here are burried monarcs, famous writers, musicians and important people of British art. There was the coronation of Elizabeth II.
- Buckingham Palace – it’s home of the Queen.
- Whitehall – it’s a long street with two important parts:
Downing street – it’s next to the Palace, 10 D. S. it’s home of Prime Minister
Traffalgar square – there is National Gallery and in the middle is a statue of admiral Nelson = Nelson’s columm. In Whitehall we can see Horse Guards Parade.
- Picadilly Circus = square that isn’t square, it is busy, you can find there shopping and advertisment. For shopping are also good Bonds Street and Regent Street.
- Madame Tussaud’s Museum – there are wax statues.
- Baker Street – Sherlock Holmes museum.
- Oxford Street – it’s famous for shopping.
- The East End
Here lives foreigners who live in Britain.
- Parks
- Hyde Park – here is a speaker’s corner, where can people say, what they want, but they can’t stay on an Englisch land (they stay on a box,…).
- Green Park – it’s next to the Buckingham Palace.
- Jame’s Park – it’s in front of the Buc. Pal.

- Regent’s Park – there is a ZOO.

- Soho – it’s apart of London where lives Chinese foreigners. It’s a place for young people. There are lot cafes, restaurants, place for gambling.
- London Eye – it’s a observation wheel.

- London Dungeon – it was a prison, now there is a museum.
- Greenwich – there is an observatory and a museum.
